Buildings as Material
Interpretations and re-interpretations – this seminar examines the codes, structures, functions and social processes embedded in the university building. The aim here is not merely to identify these in a superficial way but instead to embark on a deeper analysis and penetration of these subjects. Practical exercises take the form of activities, interventions, displacements, additions and subtractions, and alternate with theoretical observations and considerations. Expeditions are utilised to seek out the unknown within the known. After all, perception is also an adventurous journey. The aim is to focus the students’ attention on certain aspects of spaces, such as their social and technical implications, the traces of use, organisational systems, historicity and ephemeral elements. This in turn leads to a more complex understanding of the subject.
